So, in honor of the holiday season, I decided to draw a cute little picture to celebrate, which- as you can see- is very clearly Christmas-themed (although I also wish everyone else who celebrates a different holiday this time of year a happy holiday, as well). Yes, yes, I know, it's a day late, but it's still most certainly the holiday season, so I don't think it's too
I actually had a few different ideas for what I could draw here, honestly, including Oswald riding a somewhat MLP:FiM-esque reindeer, as well as Ortensia wearing an elf suit instead and replacing her with Mickey in a Jack Frost outfit outright, but in the end, I came up with this cute little picture of Oswald and Ortensia dressed up as Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus, respectively. Of course, no matter which way I took it, I knew that I wanted Oswald in a Santa suit right from the very start- I just didn't know what else to do, at first. I'm glad I figured out, though.
I didn't have too much reference for either of their outfits, so it's mostly just from memory (although I would personally dare say that Ortensia's Mrs. Claus gown is just about entirely from scratch, being as my memories of Mrs. Claus aren't as clear as they are of Santa). I'm not entirely
positive that I did everything correctly, but I still think I captured the iconic image of the outfits of both Santa and his wife (namely Santa, though) fairly well. I intentionally didn't add a few details, for instance, giving Oswald a beard. Honestly, I don't think that Ozzie would look right
in a beard, especially a snow-white one that matches the color of the fur on his face. I tried my best to include everything I could, though.
Now, just a quick side note- it could be just me, but personally, I think that Ortensia just doesn't look quite herself
without her cute, pink flower hat. Oswald still looks perfectly fine to me- which isn't a surprise, honestly, since the Santa outfit has red and white bits as well as a yellow belt buckle, and all of those colors can also be found on Mickey's classic attire, the mouse being very similar in appearance and exactly the same color as Oswald; the brown bits don't look too shabby at all, either, since I've drawn Oswald in his fur coat from Tall Timber before and colored the coat brown (even though it could very well be just as black as it appeared in the original short, since he got the coat directly from a poor bear and black bears do exist), and the brown coat actually goes quite well with Oswald's black-and-white appearance. Ortensia, however, looks a bit strange with her hat entirely gone. I could have at least
given her a similar hat, with a bit more of a Christmas theme, such as a bit of holly or some mistletoe in place of the daisy, but still maintaining the same shape, but I guess it just entirely slipped my mind... still, she does look pretty cute, as does Oswald, and I most certainly do like how this came out. I hope you do, too. Also, a fun fact- this was drawn inside a new sketchbook and colored with colored pencils that I got for Christmas and forgot to mention in my journal. I could go back and edit getting those two things in, but I think I mentioned enough things already, there, and I think that I gave everyone a good enough general idea of what I got in the journal, anyway.Oswald the Lucky Rabbit and Ortensia belong to Disney.
